we especially worked the shulinab area after much prayer as to which village to concentrate on to start a new group so that surrounding villages couild be worked more fully by publishers from that area of shulinab . we had a few families that special interest and that were connected to a family in lethem that were origonally from nr shulinab so that greatly helped the progress of abraham (the noe serving captain of shulinabs brother)and his cornelia and 4 children . cornelia is the sister of neville( a publisher in lethem with his wife elizabeth and 3 children )so they quickly attended meetings we had from the beginning despite opposition from family and school children to their children .we are hopeful when we return in january to start visiting there again( after the rainey season that makes the road impassable )that the interest will still be there and they can start to publish at some stage . heres a pix of cornelia having a study with sinead and bethany and a visiting sister vydia persaud from georgetown .there was a group of us going out to shulinab every wednesday falicia wilson (from the states mid west i think )javan roff (from london england ex bethelite)and any visitors we could bring along .we have been working it only parts of 2 years (as we leave in rainey season to return home to work may-sept)and already we are haing great results with 150 at the first memorial and 100 at this years memorial !!!!mostly studies or ex studiesthis year which made it more meaningful .also we had a steady meeting attendance that we held in the football stands of up to 40 plus but a steady 35 every week , so we were pretty amazed and happy with our labours and jehovahs blessings on the little group there .on the next post i will do a run down of other bible students and what they had to face in there endeavors to serve jehovah .

last years work in the field

been a long time since i wrote anything ,not having internet connection etc in lethem was hard to do anything but i will give you an update from where we left off . after having great success in shulinab and going 3 times a week along came the usual opposition from various angles . we had to meet with the village elders and they initially decided we could only come twice a month !!!!!!!!!!!!!!we were horrified and after going away from the meeting we decided to go back and ask for 4 times a month for which permission was granted !!!!!!!!!!!!so we started going a group of 5 of us once a week and having all studies in one day then at 4:30pm we had a talk and watchtower to which up to 35 would attend each week . we were very happy with that and at the end of our time we had 100 at the memorial also 35 made the long trip of 35 miles to lethem for the one day assembley where a local from shulinab now living in lethem was the lone baptism candidate called patricia henry . i will put up some pix when i get a decent connection as i have dial up at the moment in ireland but soon will get broadband and will upload some pix of the year ,this pix is moco moco nr lethem a small groupb of about 16 . more to come !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is a new letter we had 28 at the meeting in shulinab on sunday so we were happy and a local family from lethem who were from shulinab so it was nice for locals to see someone of their own .so thinks are going good i will try to upload some pix bye

we are back for a while now and glad to be able to say we have started having meetings in shulinab with our first attendance of 22 so it is good start heres a few pix . also a group have comi in from gtown to go north to kato side . a arduous trip in itself so may jehovah b with them

matthews ridge build progresses

before coming to lethem we served in the north west of Guyana in places like mabaruma , port kaituma and part of our territory was Matthews ridge where we helped start a newish group , i say newish because 20 yrs ago there was a Cong of Jehovah's witnesses there but disbanded . we used to visit the place from time to time with the newtons Jim and Terri and saw much potential for a group.so we would take our turns going up and staying for the weekend and having mtgs where anywhere from 40-60 would attend .eventually a team of young bros came Stephan Johnson (now serving in the ridge )Richard Cruz,Douglas warren and Ben went there for a few months and had great success . while there they received a $100 from someone back home so we suggested it was kept and put toward a fund for building a meeting place and accommodations for need greaters . the $100 turned in to $20,000 in a year and a build was arranged by our main man builder Mitch muick a 6ft 2in monster worker (only joking there Mitch )lots of planning went on in the time we were back in Ireland with Mitch an experienced builder living in San Fransisco area . we got back in Sept and started to accumulate materiel's for the build ,some all the way from Georgetown and some from mabaruma (2 truckloads of finished wood)and the rest would be cut in the Matthews ridge area .it was not easy as nothing goes too smooth when cutting wood directly from the rainforest's and have to transport it out to site . our date for starting was originally Feb 1st but when Mitch arrived in late DEC and saw the site we had to change from a 2 story to a one story so much of the planning went out the window and we had to make an on the spot decision as to what we would do !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????we rectified it and told everyone coming to put their plans forward to Jan 1st !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!which many were not able to do . however as it all turned out Jehovah had his hand in it all and everyone arrived just at the right time . first a partner for Mitch was Kalli Carmichael a rugged young builder with past experience of foreign builds having worked on many builds abroad of the states , this proved vital and helped Mitch in the time they were there alone before others arrived .during that time sinead and myself were keeping kaituma mtgs going while making many trips to the ridge with materiel's for the build so all was almost ready when Mitch arrived .before long our chef arrived in the form of Dave Jackson , his wife had just arrived so this was just what he needed and more so what we needed as we found out he had other talents been brought up on a farm could drive a tractor that we needed for bringing the wood from Doris,s (the only one left from old ridge Cong )house to the site . soon others started to arrive Ben's brother and friends from Colorado Chuck and Kaile young from same place , mike Mitch,s right hand man in the states and I'm missing other names oh Jim and Terri Compton Sherwin Lowe in all 21 workers turned out and was a sweet success . when we got to the roof and half of zinc was on my time was up , i was in between moving to lethem so left Feb 2nd with kallai and headed south some 500 miles to where we are now lethem .the last we heard there are now 8 pub 3 of them baptized and they have around anywhere from 60-80 at Sunday meetings so Jehovah knew he had people there . i will do a blog on mabaruma,s early days later .
